Course Description Overview
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to install and configure Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 and its core services, and manage Active Directory objects.
You will:
- Plan, install, and configure Windows Server 2012.
- Install and configure an Active Directory domain controller.
- Administer Active Directory objects.
- Automate administrative tasks.
- Configure IPv4.
- Configure IPv6.
- Install and configure DHCP.
- Install and configure DNS.
- Configure storage spaces and file and print services.
- Configure Group Policy.
- Secure Windows servers.
- Install and configure virtual servers and clients.
Students taking this course are system administrators or prospective system administrators who have some knowledge of and experience working with Windows Server and who want to further develop their skills for Active Directory and Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 implementation.
This course is also for students seeking the Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) certification and want to prepare for Exam 70-410, Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012.
To ensure your success in this course, you should understand the fundamentals of networking. You should have experience with completing administration and security tasks in an enterprise environment. In addition, you should be comfortable with supporting, configuring, and using a Windows® client such as Windows Vista®, Windows 7, or Windows 8. You can obtain this level of skills and knowledge by taking the following courses, available from United States Career Campus:
- CompTIA® Network+® (Exam N10-005)
- CompTIA® Security+® (Exam SY0-301)
For this course, you will need the following software:
- Microsoft® Windows Server® 2012 Standard or Datacenter Edition or Microsoft® Windows Server® 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter Edition
- If necessary, software for viewing the course slides. (Instructor machine only.)
For this course, you will need two computers for each student and for the instructor. Each computer will need the following minimum hardware configuration:
- 1.4 GHz or faster 64-bit (x64) processor
- 512 megabytes (MB) RAM; 8 gigabytes (GB) or more recommended
- 32 GB available hard disk space If you plan to install over a network connection, or if your computer has more than 16 GB of RAM, you will need more hard disk space for temporary files, paging files, hibernation files, and dump files.
- DVD drive
- Keyboard and mouse (or other pointing device)
- Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution monitor
- Network cards and cabling for local network access
- Internet access (contact your local network administrator)
- Projection system to display the instructor's computer screen.
