You have installed and administered Windows Server 2012 R2. Windows Server has many advanced settings and services such as for DNS, DHCP, domains, forests and AD RMS. By configuring these advanced settings, you can manage the network infrastructure efficiently. In this course, you will configure advanced services within Windows Server 2012 R2.

This course is designed for IT professionals who have System Administration experience, who can implement, manage, and maintain a Windows Server (Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, or Windows Server 2012 R2) infrastructure at the enterprise level, and who want to gain the skills and knowledge required to carry out advanced management and provisioning of services within the Windows Server 2012 R2 environment.

This course is also for students who are seeking the Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) certification and who want to prepare for Exam 70-412: Configuring Advanced Windows Server 2012 R2 Services.

Prerequisites:

To ensure your success in this course, you should have experience working in a Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, or 2012 R2 enterprise environment, including the implementation, management, and configuration of Active Directory and networking infrastructures.

You should also know how to install, configure, and administer Windows Server 2012 R2. To gain this prerequisite knowledge, you can take the following United States Career Campus courses:

Microsoft® Windows Server® 2012 Standard or Datacenter Edition or Microsoft® Windows Server® 2012 R2 Standard or Datacenter EditionThis course was developed using Windows Server 2012 Standard or Datacenter edition and the activities and content are updated to reflect Windows Server 2012 R2 release and certification objectives. For this course, for each system, you need six Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Edition licenses for the physical system and five virtual machines. Because Standard Edition allows only two VMs by default, you need to procure separate VM licenses for running the additional three virtual machines. As the Standard edition of Windows Server 2012 R2 contains only two VM licenses, you need to procure three more VM licenses to run the five VMs on the main system for this course. Also, you need to procure six Standard edition licenses for setting up the course environment. For the instructor for the second physical system, you need procure an additional physical system required for an activity in Lesson 10.
Brief Description of Course Setup
Base Operating System: Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard edition
On this system, the Hyper-V role needs to be installed and configured.
Virtual Systems
5 x Hyper-V Virtual Machine running Windows Server 2012 R2
Network Arrangement
To prevent the systems from conflicting with the existing network, each student system will be in an isolated network with virtual connections. The physical system of the individual students and instructor will not be connected to any other network. Therefore, you can use the same system name for each student. You need not prefix the Student Number before each system name.
Installation of Virtual Machines
For Windows Server 2012 R2, the virtual machines have to be installed with basic options. Install Windows Server 2012 R2 on the physical system. Rename the system as Server100.
For Windows Server 2012 R2 (Primary Server VM)
Create a Hyper-V VM with 2 GB RAM and 60 GB disk space. Install Windows Server 2012 R2 using the install wizard. After the server is installed, change the server name to “Server100.”
For Windows Server 2012 R2 (Secondary Server VM)
Create a Hyper-V VM with 2 GB RAM and 60 GB disk space. Install Windows Server 2012 R2 using the install wizard. After the server is installed, change the server name to “Server2.”
For Windows Server 2012 R2 (4 Secondary Server VMs)
Create a Hyper-V VM with 1 GB RAM and 60 GB disk space. Install Windows Server 2012 R2 using the install wizard. After the server is installed, change the server name to “Server1.” You need to repeat these steps to create three more new VMs, and name them as "Server3," "Server4," and "Server5."
A maximum of two VMs can run simultaneously.
While it is fine to have multiple VM instances running at any given point of time, it is preferable to keep the number of active VMs running at any given point of time to three.

For this course, you will need one computer for each student and two for the instructor. Each computer will need the following minimum hardware configurations:

Processor -1.4 GHz 64-bit processor capable of running Hyper-V for hosting 64-bit VMs
Hard Disk - 500 GB or above
RAM - 8 GB or above
Network Adapter - compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2
DVD-ROM drive
Keyboard and mouse (or other pointing device)
1024 x 768 resolution monitor recommended
Projection system to display the instructor's computer screen
